During an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert , Gayle King told host Stephen Colbert that she thought R. Kelly was going to run out of the interview.

King told Colbert, “When I see Robert getting really upset and he stands out of his seat, my initial reaction is “Oh God, please don’t leave. Please don’t leave. Please don’t leave.”

King said that she wouldn’t’ve been surprise if R. Kelly had jet set out of there because he had done the same in interviews he had with other reporters.

The CBS This Morning co-host told Colbert that she just wanted to ask her questions and she figured out the only way to complete the interview was by remaining calm and not adding more gasoline to the already explosive fire called R. Kelly.

King said, “And I was thinking, ‘I’m not done with my questions. What can I do to save this interview?’…So I thought if I just sit there quietly, looking at him he would know I’m not going anywhere and I’ll just wait for you to finish whatever this is and then you’ll just sit back down in the seat. And he did.

Colbert commended King on her handling of the interview, telling her that her being so cool and so calm has made saying, “Robert,” the new thing to people who blow their top.

Colbert said to King, “That Robert is instantly legendary, Robert. Everybody who freaks out at anybody from now on out. If anybody yells at me for the next year, I’m just going to go, ‘Robert.’”
